In Romania, this phenomenon directly influenced the 2024 presidential elections. In Europe, coordinated campaigns run by thousands of fake accounts manipulate public opinion every day.
VerifySocial is a civic initiative that aims to bring this issue to the attention of the European Union.
The solution
The EU has already approved two laws that, together, can solve this problem. What is missing is the connection between them — this is exactly what VerifySocial proposes.
How it works - in brief
- The user verifies their identity through the EU Digital Identity Wallet.
- Zero-knowledge proof technology confirms you are a real person, without revealing your personal data.
- A simple label appears on your account: verified account — real person.
- Verification is optional. No one is required to do it.
Where we are now
We are in Phase 0 — building the citizens’ committee from 7 EU member states, the first formal step for officially registering the initiative with the European Commission.
